Borders Common Housing Register (CHR) Pilot - homehunt Hawick

Homehunt LogoEildon Housing Association, Scottish Borders Housing Association, Waverley Housing and Cairn Housing Association have implemented the Common Housing Register (CHR) for the Hawick area. If you are looking for social rented housing in Bonchester Bridge, Denholm, Hawick, Newcastleton, Newmill, Southdean, Teviothead or Wilton Dean, just tick the CHR Check box in the 'Contact a Housing Provider' form, instead of sending your application to the individual housing associations.

Waverley Housing (CHR) is a tenant-controlled organisation whereby a majority of the Directors on its Board must be tenants from within the houses owned by the Company. The organisation was established in 1992 as a landlord through the first Large Scale Voluntary Transfer in Scotland. The Company has become a major landlord in the social rented housing sector of the Central Scottish Borders and provides homes to rent for general needs purposes. It was originally established as two companies but now operates as one since both Waverley companies (Management and Trust) merged to a new single entity on 1st July 2001.

The Company’s objective is the provision of good quality housing for rent at affordable rents under secure conditions of tenancy, and their aims include:

  • Developing a strong housing stock base through rationalisation, renewal and growth.
  • Continuing commitment to neighbourhood management by being representative of the communities we serve.
  • Developing partnerships with all current and future stakeholders including Communities Scotland.
  • Responding to tenants requirements and new opportunities with innovative and appropriate solutions.

The company has an active Tenant Participation Policy and liaison between tenants and Board Members is conducted through a network of Tenant Representatives.

The company owns and manages just over 1600 properties for rent and operates an open waiting list based on a group plus points needs assessed Allocations Policy.

Waverley Housing (CHR) is not, as yet, a registered social landlord but has operated voluntarily and contractually as a social landlord since its foundation. The company is however currently pursuing registration with Communities Scotland.

More information, including stock details and rental charges can be found in the Guide to Housing Options.
